Just got back from the NYC to Bermuda (in agust) was the best vacation ever! already booked in for a cruise to no where from NYC in January just because I am hooked now. Also going on the spirit in march and wondering if anyone had any good ideas for off shore fun! we will be in Belize for a day cozumel and Guatemala. We are hoping to snorkel somewhere, see the ruins and maybe a jungle treck... any thoughts? should we book with NCL or go private?

Thank so much!

Welcome aboard! Glad you found us and welcome to the wonderful world of cruising!

Guatemala is very unsafe........please go with the cruiseline. I'm surprised they are going there at all.

Cozumel has wonderful beaches and great shopping.

Have only been to Belize once so not much help there.

We'll all be happy to help anyway we can.

Belize has changed a lot since I was there. It was once a British protectorate, and is now independent, but has always been claimed by Guatemala (they call it "Belice"). If you go to Guatemala now, stay with the group from the ship. Things are pretty safe in the capital, but in the provinces there is mixed control, and things can go wrong. If there is a chance to get a tour to the capital, though, I would take it; many interesting things there...

Belize is good for snorkeling and is known for it. I took the excursion through Carnival 1 year and enjoyed. Another time we did the cave tubing which took you out into the country with a hike (short) through the jungle to the jump in point. Floating through the caves was a lot of fun. The stop at the shopping area after was nice. Another time we did the Sloth rescue tour which took us to the farm that a couple from up north had settled in and the locals started bringing injured sloths to them for care. They have since become experts on the care of sloths etc.

Cozumel is good for the ruins and shopping but we are not shoppers. The last time we went we walked the port shopping area and did not really stay that long. We went on a tour to Tulum(?) years ago with our son and enjoyed but was a long bus ride. There were more variety of shops that offered some diversion from the usual Tanzanite/Jewelry stores.

Never been to Guatemala and sounds like I don't want to according to the comment made by a previous post.

We always book through the cruise line for our excursions for the sake of convenience and the guaranty they won't sail without you should something happen and the tour runs late. I enjoy exploring the tour options beforehand and 90% of the time book online before sailing to save the hassle of booking on board.

We loved Belize. They boast incredible snorkeling/diving. They have a great barrier reef there. We didnt' snorkel when we where there Nov 2007 because it had just been hit with a hurricane. We did the cave tubing but I think it's been cancelled due to deaths. I'd vote for doing it with the cruise ship the first time.

New Orleans is awesome. Enjoy it!

Never been to Guatamala. I have friends who have stayed with families there (to study Spanish in an emersion class) and they never said a word about dangers. But the crazies should know.

Cozumel is beautiful. You can hire a taxi, rent a jeep, take the bus. Lots to see and lots to do. And not pushy people.

I have been reading about an excursion of tubing in Belize through captain or major Tom. Reviews say he has his own tender t hat will take you to the ship if you are late but that it has never happened. Anyone know about that or have opionions if that would be a safe choice. Would love to do the cave tubint.

Wow, thank you all so much! I am getting very excited about the cruise. I must admit Ihave been so swamped and unable to really plan anything for it. I know I would like to see at least 1 ruin as well as maybe some jungle / forest and also nice beack and snorkeling. So now its time to decide when and where to do what! all in a week!!!

Thank you again!
