hazelson
Carnival's Screening and Prohibited Items Policy Dear Guest, Before you get ready to have the most fun you ever thought possible on your upcoming cruise, we must share some important security information with you. In order to maintain a safe and secure environment, Carnival prohibits certain items onboard, i.e., weapons, candles, irons, alcohol, or other dangerous goods. According to our policy, Carnival conducts security scanning of all luggage and if prohibited items are found, they will be removed and stored for safekeeping until the end of the voyage. The retained item(s) will be delivered to your stateroom on the last night of the cruise. Unsealed liquids that are prohibited will be discarded, as well as any unclaimed items left after the voyage, and no compensation will be given in either case. For additional information, please refer to the terms and conditions of your cruise ticket contract. IMPORTANT - All luggage must be unlocked before turning over to the porters in order to avoid any inconvenience to you or delay in delivering the luggage to your stateroom. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. We can't wait to see you on board! Sincerely, Vicky Rey, CTC Vice President, Guest Services

cruisetarp
I sure don't like that idea. Your luggage is out of sight and out of your control for several hours once you hand it over at the pier.
sailingrose
I agree with you Marylou, I like my luggage locked! I used zip ties in Europe because they don't have keys for TSA locks
deb1220
We always use zip ties too, Rose. I would think that their policy would be illegal.
lashl
We use the TSA locks on all luggage we hand over at the pier. This policy is going to casue some problems!
jacketwatch
I too do not like this idea. No way do I want to unlock our luggage for so long when it is out of sight. This policy provides too much temptation to so many to rifle thru your bags and if something goes missing does Carnival have a way to trace who handled it?? It can't be done. cruisetarp
Maybe I'm a bit more paranoid than some others, but I really think this would be a deciding factor in choosing a cruise line in the future.
coloradocruisers
Let's all remember that the porters don't work for the cruiseline, but rather the port. There's probably nothing in their union contract that requires them to keep TSA keys. Carnival may be the first to write the letter, but the policy will probably apply to other lines as well. It doesn't matter that the porter's union doesn't require the porters to carry TSA lock keys. Why would the porters have reason to be going through my luggage anyway? If the cruiseline wants to inspect my bags they can call me down and have me unlock the bags in front of them. Leaving the bags unlocked for all the time they are out of your sight and control is only asking for trouble. IMHO
