Norwegian Cruise lines have posted their Itineraries as follows:

7 day round trip from New York on the Norwegian Jewel - Sept 17 OR Sept 24 .. Oct. 1 OR 8th

Ports: Sydney, Nova Scotia - Halifax, Nova Scotia - St, John, New Brunswick (Bay of Fundy) and Portland, Maine

Rates beginning at: Inside $679 ... Ocean View $779...Balcony $979 or Suites $1179.

Any thoughts either pro or con?

I have not sailed on NCL in 20 years but will sail on the Jewel this June. I'll let everyone know all about it when I get back.

The price seems attractive. Not everyone would like NCL, however based on our one cruise with them we could live with it. As long as it cruises past the Statue of Liberty we will be happy. Our biggest costs would be our airfare and 2 or 3 days pre-cruise in NYC sightseeing and staying at a decent hotel. Of course, that's not counting what Rita's may spend shopping!

We just got a cruise quote from HAL for an eleven day New Year 2011 cruise and we have sticker shock from the airfare portion to FLL. About $550 for each, including the transfers--and that does not include the extra baggage charges!

That sounds great to me! I have sailed with NCL twice and agree that some may not like it but I still believe a cruise is what you make of it....It's still a cruise  I also like it because it means I don't have to fly....YAY!

Once again I won't be able to join in. Way too close to our November 7 (14 day Caribbean cruise). Jerry would kill me, for sure, if I booked two vacations in a span of a few months.

One of these times I will get on a Cruise Crazy Group event.

Deb - that Explorer cruise is this year - We are looking for 2011. Hopefully they will do the same itinerary next year. Their lists will be out March 8th

One thing about RC (and Celebrity also) they do not pass the Statue of Liberty. Their dock is below the statue, closer to Staten Island than Manhattan. You can see the Statue from the Port side of the ship but you will not actually sail past it. Carnival (which so far only has 3 & 4 day Canada/NE) NCL and Princess are the only lines which pass in front of the Statue

DebbieandJerry - We are not talking about this Fall we are looking ahead to the fall of 2011

MaryLou - we would be open to trying NCL although it's not high on our "wanna do" list. More than that our main consideration is that our ports of call include Bar Harbor, ME.

How are you ever going to satisfy everyone??? I really would like to wait to see what Princess has to offer... we have even been thinking of maybe doing New England this Fall.... that's a very BIG maybe. Thank you so much for all the research you are doing, you're a star!
