jobowl
MaryLou, If you guys have any questions about Cape Liberty or any of the ports of call let me know. I would be happy to help out if I can. We have taken this cruise or similar ones several times. We really enjoyed it. A lot of history there. Joe Joe - sorry you can't join us. This is really a great itinerary. Things are pretty quiet here right now but once we get in the 6 month mark we will be very busy planning. Any information you have to add would be greatly appreciated.
cruisetarp
I just called to make our reservations at the Wyndham hotel for Sept. and found the rate has now gone up to $98 per night. In light of that -- I think the Comfort Suites on McCarter Hwy. would be a much better option for us. $103 per night (confirmed rate - non refundable, payable in full upon booking) but a much better location. They do offer a senior or Auto club rate of $116 per night. Even at $116 I think this is a better deal than Wyndham. $10 shuttle fee from Newark Int. airport. Still no shuttle to the port but we weren't getting one in the Wyndham and I am working on finding shuttle transportation now to the pier. Debbie - they also offer parking for the length of the cruise. but the rate for the room is a bit higher. Can I have your thoughts? See my post further down and forget this post/ Edited March 8, 2011 by cruisetarp
sailingrose
Since I have no knowledge of the area I'll go along with everyone. Is this the one Marylou? http://www.comfortsuitesnewark.net/

jobowl
We had this problem at Cape liberty. Not sure why but outside of airport area couldn't find anything with port service. The hotels would take you but would not pick up. Now that has been three years. We ended up just driving there that day. Good luck

dino1pa
Hey Mary Lou; My wife had a suggestion concerning the hotel situation. If you were to contact Royal Caribbean, could they perhaps help with some Hotel info that could be helpfull to locating the right location and a hotel? It may be worth a phone call. The Newark Airport area could be pricey & not too safe when it comes to the groups automobiles. I lived in Elizabeth for many of years, and I would always have somebody drop me off, rather than leaving the vehicle there. That area there is known as a car supermarket for car thieves. I hope this info is of some help. Edited March 9, 2011 by dino1pa
cruisetarp
Thanks Hector - I tried that a while ago with no results. The Wyndham is OK. Great hotel - just nothing around it. The one plus is they have a gated parking lot and an attendant on duty all the time so hopefully the cars will be OK. I think it will just be an overnight parking for some of us - we are all driving to the pier. The cost of parking is worth the convenience of having our car there at the end of the cruise. jobowl
For those driving to port. When you enter the parking lot park as far left next to the street. (don't park in lot across street) You will be close to port this way. When you depart you will be able to take your luggage to your car it is that close. If not and you chose to pick luggage up with your car remember people dropping luggage off will be there very congested. Also by parking in the lot and not having to go and get luggage you can leave at the other end of the lot and avoid a lot of traffic. You will be amazed how quick you will get out avoiding most traffic. Gosh I wish I could make this trip you guys will have a great time. Joe Thanks Hector - I tried that a while ago with no results.
