deb1220
A tour company in Bar Harbor.....seems to have reasonable rates... http://www.acadiatours.com/ A beautiful place to visit while you're on the island... http://thejordanpondhouse.com/ You can get there and back on the aforementioned (FREE) "Island Explorer" bus. Horse carriage tours of Acadia National Park... http://www.carriagesofacadia.com/index.html
jobowl
I just checked my notes on Bar Harbor. We did a whale watch from a local place right on the dock. They were very good. The boat was real fast so we got there quick and could move to where the whales where in a timely matter. It was very cold out at sea. Take gloves and dress in layers. We've been to Bar Harbor 4 times before (on a land vacation), but have never been on a whale watch. Maybe this time.

1shipshape
Great info, everyone! I'm wondering if the tour company through Acadia stops to allow us to "take a hike", Deb. Whale watching would be a lot of fun, too. So much to see and so little time. One cruise definitely will not allow us to see and do all that we'd like to do. dino1pa
Great information from everyone concerned about Maine. I do not see anything about the group doing any kind of excursion in Maine. Those this mean that We should look for our own individual excursions? Mary Lou; You seem to have a lot of knowledge about the area, perhaps if it is ok with you & Your husband maybe Maureen & I can join you in whatever Excursion you will be doing. cruisetarp
Hector - Several people have expressed interest in whale watching when in Maine and I am researching that right now. Waiting for information from one particular company. There are a lot of companies that do this type of thing but I'm having trouble finding one that will fit into our time frame. Will keep everyone posted. No matter what we do, you are more than welcome to join Jim & I in any of the ports. Look for information this week on the roll call forums about some group activities on board the ship.
deb1220
I'm wondering if the tour company through Acadia stops to allow us to "take a hike", Deb. Toni, This is the opening paragraph on the FREE shuttle bus site...http://exploreacadia.com/ "The Island Explorer features eight bus routes linking hotels, inns, and campgrounds with destinations in Acadia National Park and neighboring village centers. Clean propane-powered vehicles offer Mount Desert Island visitors and residents free transportation to hiking trails, carriage roads, island beaches, and in-town shops and restaurants." The one with the tour doesn't mention any stops for hiking... I hope this helps Sorry it took me so long to respond...
