How many cruises is enough??

I think the expensive part is the air fare and that only continues to get worse... they are nickel and diming us to death! Even though we are within a day's driving distance to San Diego or Los Angeles, we are not too thrilled to only be able to go to Mexico. We wish there were more Pacific Coast cruises on all the cruise lines from San Diego that stop at Monterey, San Francisco, Portland, OR, Seattle and then south again. Even if it went to Vancouver... our cruises have stopped in Victoria many times and there is only so much to see in Victoria... how about some other port?

   I've always said that a destination you want to go to should stir some excitement or anticipation so with that in mind how about maybe saving up for the exotic you want to do whatever it is vs. seeing something over again.  We've done the so. Caribbean twice ad I must say its a great route but to do it a 3rd time would necessitate an attractions such as some different islands or maybe a really cool ship like the Oasis for example. For now we are hoping for a Holy Land cruise in oct. 2001 and believe me we are very excited about that.

In general, I believe most people would say "One cruise more than you'll ever take is enough."

That said, Yuki and I love variety. And I guess nobody's taken a look at my signature over the last week....

Ray, congrats n your new booking. I knew that RCL was expanding their European presence, so I will be interested in hearing your critique. Sharon and I are thinking about a European cruise in our future as well.

I have no clue how many cruises is enough.  With 55 logged, I'm still excited about the next one and looking beyond that for another one.  As long as I can crawl up the gangway I'm up for another cruise.  Have repeated many ports, but something interesting and different happened everytime.

I'm glad there was more to the quesstion than "how many cruises is enough" - I mean is that even possible for us ?! No! But as to the Caribbean -I'm in the "play it again, Sam" crowd. Probably because we live in driving distance to Galveston and N.O., it is just so easy to hop in the car and be at the port in 4-5 hours. Although we've been to Cozumel about 24 times, icluding on-cruising trips, we continue to love the island. We rent a car and go to the quiet, windward side of the island. In many ports we sta onboard and enjoy the quiet of the ship. We have broken out and done some other areas - Alaska x 3, Baltics x 2, Mediteranean, British Isles, Mex. Riviera, Hawaii and have one Carib, one Hawaii on the books and the Greek Isles waiting for 2012 dates. We enjoy those wonderful far away places, but in truth, they are much less relaxing. Air travel is not much fun anymore - and certainly not cheap, so there's a lot to be said for US gatewas.

MagnoliaBlossom - Welcome to CruiseCrazies!! You are so right about the flights being so expensive and the fact that some cruises (Europe) are definitely not relaxing. I guess we are really blessed to be able to hop on a ship here at a whim, even if it is going to the same destination that we've been to 24 times!!! Hope to see you posting regularly.

Skipper: Thanks so much for the pic of the promenade.  It brings back good memories. Hopefully our next cruise will be next Oct. to the holy land and by that time it will have been two full yrs. since we last cruised.  Soon we will be going to India with a 4 day stop in Hong Kong on the return. India is for a wedding and having been there 5 times already its not new but it will be nice. However I'm really looking f/w to HK. By 2011 that cruise will seem like our 1st I'll bet.

We've done 58 cruises and have 4 more booked. My wife loves the sun in the Caribbean, and the cruises are not so hectic. Airfare to Florida is far less expensive than to the more exotic destinations. However, having said that, we have cruised in Tahiti, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada/New England, the Mediterranean twice, the Baltic & Russia, and a French River Cruise. I'd like to go to Tahiti again....loved it and it didn't seem hectic, just beautiful. Since I spent so much time in Asia and a year in Vietnam as an advisor, I don't have the urge to go to Asia. I've been to Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and the Phillipines while in the Navy. Australia and New Zealand would be nice, but again the airfare is more expensive than the cruise! Even airfare to Europe next year has increased about $300 per person over this year.
