Cruise Tours in Alaska

Have any of you taken the Land/Sea tours on any of the cruise lines? We're planning a Cruise Tour in Alaska in 2012 for our 20th anniversary. Thinking of a Holland America trip. We would welcome any pros/cons and the "Don't Miss It" comments.

We are thinking double Denali, Fairbanks, Anchorage and on to the 7 day cruise.

Thanks for your help!

We did a cruisetour with Princess, and loved every minute of it. We later did another Alaska cruise (not a cruise tour) with HAL. We also liked that cruise, but it didn't have the same WOW as the Princess cruise. The ship seemed quieter and nightlife was minimal. I also think that any 2nd cruise to Alaska will not have quite the same impact on the senses as the 1st one. Enjoy.

Thanks, Howard. We've never been on Princess. I've been researching AK sites to see if they offer better deals if we fly into Fairbanks and go from there. We definitely want to spend a couple days in Denali. Might want to go up to Prudhoe Bay and the Arctic Circle. Don't think there's much to see in Anchorage... let me know if I'm wrong here, folks... and what's in Seward? We left there from our last cruise, but went from bus to cruise ship and didn't have any time to explore.

We like to get a balcony usually, but the waters in AK can be rough so we're considering an oceanview room this time... cheaper... lower deck... any thoughts?

Alaska Cruise Ship holidays are becoming very popular and frequented by large numbers of people. Many, many of these have the holiday of a lifetime however a small number of people are unfortunate enough to experience crime on board. This is not specific to an Alaska cruise but is more influenced by the cruise ship environment. Cruise ships are inherently safe and secure, however when you have a large number of people involved eventually a few will experience a problem.

As with any type of holiday, land based or cruise ship, you should take certain precautions and make preparations to avoid being a victim of some unhappy situation. The cruise companies themselves offer guidance, unfortunately many people do not take the simple steps advised.

Make sure that you have an up-to-date passport and that any travel documents or insurance are to hand. Prepare duplicates of all these important documents to take with you, they will help in obtaining a replacement should you lose an item whilst on board ship. Review any expensive items and valuables that you are proposing to take with you, do you really need these? Expensive jewelery will be safer locked at home in a safe rather than taken with you on a holiday.

I hope the information is useful for you!

We did a cruise tour with Princess and it was OUTSTANDING!! Princess are the pioneers in Alaska and their lodges and train are fantastic. One thing I would say is definitely do the tour frist and then the cruise, because the tour is more intense and then you can have a wonderful 7 day cruising and relaxing. Enjoy - it is out of this world.
