Does anyone have any suggestions on shore excursions in Alaska? My husband, sister, brother-in-law and I will be sailing on the Carnival Spirit in June 2011 and there so many excursions to read through!

Welcome to CruieCrazies. What's the itinerary of the cruise?

We will be in Skagway, AK for 14hrs; Juneau, AK for 8hrs; Ketchikan, AK for 6hrs, and Victoria, BC Canada for 4hrs. I know my husband and brother-in-law are looking to do a fishing excursion. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Juneau's a great place to go whale watching.

Skagway has a train ride right from the port. We tried to schedule a helicopter flight to a nearby glacier but the ceilings were too low that day.

Ketchikan has a neat little town that's fun to walk around, and a museum that's doesn't cost very much.

The train ride in Skagway is the White Pass Railroad. This is a must-do for this port. The scenery is spectacular and extremely exciting. There are several different excursinos that take you on the RR, and they're all good. We took a bus thru the White Pass into the Yukon, and then took the train back to to Skagway. That was one of our better excursions.

Like Kevin said, Juneau has great whale watching, and a drive-up glacier. . We combined the two. There is excursions that take you Whale Watching , then drop you off at the glacier before going back to the ship. Leave time to walk thru Juneau. Very nice little town.

Ketchikan is a nice walking town, but there are also good fishing excursions from there. Also some grat float plane and helicopter excursions.

In Victoria, go and see the gardens. They are amazing.

We have done Alaska 3 times and I'd go back in a minute. My best advice is to do whatever you really want to do.........you may not get back there again.

We helicoptered to and walked on the glacier in Juneau and Skagway. Mendenhall glacier in Juneau was better. We also went whale watching in Juneau, excellent!

We too the float plane in Misty Fjords (Ketchikan). We also did the Lumberjack show in Ketchikan. Great town for walking in.

tljones, great excursion suggestions from Howard and Kevin. The only thing we could add is while in Juneau be sure to stop in at the Red Dog Saloon for a beer!

Thanks, we will be sure to stop at the Red Dog Saloon and have a beer (or 2, etc)
