Hi....my family just returned from a 7 night western carribean cruise with royal carribean. Back in December was our first cruise where my husband and I tagged along with another couple on a four day Bahamas cruise with carnival. I believe I am hooked! I have told my friends a cruise is a true moms vacation....no cooking no worrying about when and where to eat nothing needed from me!!! True vacation!!!! To be honest I really didn't see a hue difference in royal vs carnival....they were both awesome in my opinion! I know some folks are diehard carnival or royal....I'm just diehard cruise I suppose!!! I'm hooked! Can't wait to book the next one!

Yep – you’re hooked – time to start planning the next one so you don’t go into withdrawal! We aren’t exclusive to any one cruise line either; they’ve all got their appeal. Happy cruising!

Hey Y'all!

My name is Nikki and I'm from good ol' North Carolina! I went on my first cruise in April 2009. It was a family vacation that we planned because my hubby was deploying overseas. I loved it so much that I did a girl's cruise that December, and hubby and I did a reunion cruise when he came home in July 2010. Since then we have been sorely lacking on the cruise front, until this year. While hubby was deployed yet again, I planned another family vacay for when he got home. So.........46 days from now, I will be enjoying yet another fantabulous Carnival cruise!

I don't usually post a lot, but every now and then I will chime in if I have something to add to a conversation. So go easy on me.......please! :)

Of course, we'll go easy on you, Nikki - we love when members come here and offer feedback. I hope someday when your husband is through serving our Country, you will get to cruise more often. Until then, enjoy every moment together with your family aboard your next cruise - and wishing prayers to your husband that he makes it home safely!

Hello all!

I'm a cruise noob, but a long time computer geek, so if I fit right in, I assure you it's got nothing to do with my cruising experience! I tend to lurk and learn on message boards until I have something useful to add, or a lame attempt at humor slips out. :)

My wife and I started investigating cruises about eleven years ago, but never took one before my son was born. They never warn you how much raising a kid right sets your bank account back! But we're almost ready to give a shot once again, so we're exploring ideas.

Right now we're living just north of Portland, OR in the USA's version of Vancouver. This should make it easy to take a trip up to Seattle for a cruise! Seems like mostly Alaska voyages from there, or the to/from Alaska seasonal ship re-homings.

Our only real worry is our son - he seems worried about getting sea sick. He has gotten car sick a couple times, but mostly when he's already ill to start with. If anyone has some safe remedies on that front, we'd be greatly appreciative to hear them!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled cruise planning. Have yourselves an AWESOME day! :)

PS - I have ten thumbs, and they don't always get along, so please forgive my 10 typo per minute typing "skills". They also don't stand much chance of keeping up with my faster than light speed brain, which can cause altogether different problems understanding what to heck I'm talking about. :)

Hi Tim! Today’s big ships are much more like being in a hotel than on a boat (or even in a car). Motion sickness is rare (more often brought on by worrying about it than any actual motion) and cruises to Alaska traditionally involve very calm seas – so it should make for a good first cruise for him.

There are several things out there that don’t involve any medication that many people swear helps keep them from feeling seasick. We have friends who insist that eating a little ginger keeps the motion sickness away and we’ve heard others say that eating green apples works wonders. There’s a wrist band you can buy (called Sea-Bands, I think) at most drug stores – it has a small bead that presses on a pressure point in the wrist supposedly preventing seasickness – that Mom used to use successfully. I know there are other preventions/cures out there as well.

Let us know if you have any questions as you make your plans! Happy cruising!
