rogue
We have never taken a cruise on any holiday except the Independence Day. There was just a bit of fanfare for the holiday. Who cruises on holidays, and is there much different of an experience on those cruises? They usually are much more expensive, and I'm not sure that I want to put that money out for one. sailingrose
We have cruised Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years. Yes, they are definitely more expensive. New Years is probably our favorite since it's so much fun. The ships have several big parties, balloon drops, champagne. Just a whole lot of fun. Christmas was special for us. My parents would join us and we would all gather in our cabin Christmas morning to exchange small gifts. We decorated our cabin with a small tree and we always took our stockings. Santa comes by life boat and brings all the kids gifts. They serve Egg Nog, carol, etc. We probably won't do Christmas again since we're having a grandbaby but we will do New Years again for sure. DebbieandJerry
We've cruised during Marti Gras celebration. Ship was totally decorated. Beads were thrown into the ship (not the water) on Fat Tuesday. We've cruise Thanksgiving once and a week before once. Didn't pay any more for it. The first time Thanksgiving Day was the second "formal" night. They told us that traditional Thanksgiving food would be the last night (next night) so we had the formal, elegant meal on the Thurs and the turkey, etc on the Friday Second time was just this past November. We got off the ship on a Sunday and Thanksgiving was that Thursday. The ship was already decorated for Xmas. We cruised Hawaii Dec 7 through the 17. The ship was beautifully decorated for the Xmas holidays. Each lounge had a separate tree and a theme for that tree. Each dining room had separate decorations as well. This was truly a beautifully decorated ship. Both of the November cruises were over Veteran's Day. When we were in San Juan this past November, there was no charge to go in to the fort because of the holiday. We have also cruised over Jewish holidays. The ship did offer services each of the times, but I never went.
KeithnRita
Thanksgiving and Christmas are to important to us as family time. The only way we would cruise would be if all could go. New Years, however, is our time! New Year cruises are extra fun because almost everyone is in the festive mood. The big problem is the cost. Since we shut down our plant between Christmas and New Years we look for 10 day cruises beginning a couple days after Christmas. That way I'm only away from our business for 1 week. Do any of you Crazies care to join us?
