scalise12
We where wondering if anyone else has noticed the lack of enforcing the dress code in the dining areas and at night, on your cruise. We witness guest not wearing shoes and no T-shirts and woman wearing bikini's to the dining areas and also at night through out the ship in the Disco's and Lounges. MY QUESTION IS, DO YOU THINK CRUISE LINES SHOULD ENFORCE THEIR DRESS CODES? I would have to say yes, from what we saw this past weekend!!!!!!!!!!! Let's hear what you have to say on this subject. coloradocruisers
I think they should screen people in the main dining rooms, because the dress codes are pretty casual now. Not to sure about the rest of the ship. Everyone's there to have fun, and as long as they aren't screaming and spilling beer on people, I don't get offended at how they dress. cruisetarp
I think they should definately enforce the dress code during dinner. Lately, it seems to be hit or miss. On the Radiance in Feb. I saw a man turned away in the dining room at dinner in shorts and a tank top yet on the Enchantment in April it seemed that "anything goes" and saw many tee shirts, shorts and caps in the evening. DebbieandJerry
No shoes, to me, is a health hazard. Any restaurant ANYWHERE says "no shoes, no shirt, no service". To me, that is blatant disregard to all of the other passengers. Not that I concur with wearing any type of bathing suit in a dining room. But, I hope she looked good in it! (HA). Honestly, some of these women have not looked in a full length mirror for quite awhile. I need to share what happened on our Carnival Miracle Cruise a few years back. First FORMAL night. We are in a booth that seats 4 and directly next to us is the next booth that seats 4. We are late dining. Remember, it's after 8pm. The sun has already set. In strolls the 4 next to us: two guys and two girls. TOTALLY trashed. In cut off shorts, tank tops and bathing suit tops. Loud and obnoxious. They sit down. The matre d' comes over and quietly asks them to return to the dining room when they are properly dressed. One of the two men starts cursing and yelling that he paid for this cruise and he was going to eat. No more was said by the matre d', waiter, us or anyone else. No one wanted a confrontation. And, YES, they did pose for formal pictures at the dinner table! So a part of me says, I truly understand why dress code isn't enforced. rogue
I really don't care what others are wearing, to be honest. If they come in drunk and obnoxious, that's another story. Saying that, I've seen men in tuxes who were quite drunk and obnoxious. I'm also not really sure if going in shoeless is a health hazard to anyone but the person who is shoeless. I have never yet heard of any bacteria that can jump from the floor to a tabletop. I have heard of people getting infected with bacteria or fungus from contacting them with their bare feet. DebbieandJerry
Howard, I agree. Definitely a health hazard to the person that is barefoot. No telling what is on the floor, what has been broken or spilled, or who stepped in what that the barefoot person is now stepping in. And, yes, you are right. I, too have seen drunk and obnoxious "all dolled up".

Shari2
Everything seems to be more casual these days, and I'm ok with that...I actually like it, except for the formal dining room. I do think people should be dressed decently there, according to the cruise lines request. Especially on formal, or dressy nights. If the cruise lines has a dress code, I think they should either enforce it or change it... if they aren't going to enforce it. After Debbie's post I do see how hard that could be at times, though. The ship's daily bulletin usually has the dress code for the day in it.
DebbieandJerry
Shari, you are so right about what is written in the bulletin. They even go as far as giving examples of what to wear. I guess my reaction was to the fact that there is blatant disregard. To me that is just rude.
jacketwatch
What ship was this that allowed no shoes and bikinis to the MDR??? Its true that for sometime the dress codes have not been followed. You even see folks on formal nights being very casual and they are let in. However as for what you saw I'm shocked. Thats just plain terrible.
