Do you take private excursions?

Do you take private excursions in the ports or do you stick with the cruise lines excursions?

We take as many private excursions as we can. They are usually cheaper and with a smaller group of people. I rarely take excursions with the cruiseline unless we are in a port for a short time.

If it is a port we have been to we usually do our own tour. If it is a new port I read as much as I can gather the info than decide what we want to do and see. It usually is our own tour but we don't rule out a private tour.

We've done both. Now we wait until we are aboard ship and may book something with the cruise line spur of the moment.

We do it on our own or use options other than the cruise line excursions. Not necessarily private tours, but with companies that have smaller groups and often less expensive than the cruise line excursions. In 64 cruises we have only done maybe 2 or 3 cruise line excursions.

On our first few cruises, we always did excursions from the ship. Now we do about 95% on our own.

We do a lot of research before we leave and try to get the most bang for our buck. The 5% that we do with the ship are the tours that we cannot find on our own.

If it's an island that we have been to, we almost always do our own thing.
