DebbieandJerry
My sister and brother-in-law will only dine in the speciality dining room when they cruise. We tried it once (NCL in Hawaii). We were not impressed. I do recall that we ate lunch at Johnnie Rocket's on RCL one day and paid a small fee for it. The "boys" really wanted cheeseburgers and milkshakes! Call me cheap (I know I am). But I am just as happy eating the food that is served in the main dining room or lido deck.
cruisetarp
We usually try the specialty restaurants at least once during each cruise.
DebbieandJerry
MaryLou: do you find that the quality of beef is better? Maybe it was the NCL ship that we were on. Honestly, the food was no better than main dining. And it was not cheap. (By that I mean for what you got and what you paid for it, I could have done better in a steak restaurant in Tucson)
rogue
We have done several specialty restaurants, and have found that the food is certainly better. The presentation is also better. Certainly, the beef was better.
cruisetarp
Debbie - We have found all the food to be better than in the dining room. They are cooking for a smaller group so can spend more time on your meal. The service is wonderful also since the waiters have fewer tables to wait on. scalise12
WE ATE TWICE ON A NCL CRUISE FOR ITALIAN, BUT PREFER MAIN DINING ROOM
zebra
We also usually do one specialty restaurant per 7 day cruise. On a longer cruise we would try each one probably .... I still like the casual atmosphere of the Lido at night though ... especially when getting back onboard after a long day sight seeing. The main diningroom is always good but very predictable. KeithnRita
When we first started cruising the food in the dining rooms were top notch. Now the food has slipped a notch or two to make room for these "specialty restaurants." We don't like them for that reason, however we do go at least once per cruise. jacketwatch
Then there's the idea floating about that food in the MDR is purposely of a lower quality to tr to steer more folks to the extra fee venues. Well for us the MDR has been fine and we do try the speciality places but usually just once. We have tried Sabatini's on Princess several times so I doubt we would do that again. Shari2
We always dine in the specialty restaurant one time. We have had wonderful service and food. Depending on the ship we are on and how the food is, it's usually better in the specialty restaurant...we have had almost as good service and food in the dining room on Celebrity...Infinity.
