Many of the cruise lines now have a “no discounting” policy, so prices should be the same. With a travel agent there’s a chance they held space in advance and have pricing from before the rates went up. A travel agent may give you a small gift for booking (like a bottle of wine) and hopefully they’ll keep an eye out for the rates to go down. I don’t think the cruise line does any of those things.

First 2 cruises had a TA. My upcoming cruise I went to the Carnival website and booked ES over the phone and the guy I spoke to said he would be my PVP. I have to admit that my price dropped $650 for a balcony cabin with 3 pax, and when I had a TA, nothing. Don't think they had ES several years ago and if I could have gotten a price drop on either one of them, I wasn't told by the TA.
