Hello everyone.

I joined this board to learn about and discuss cruising. Myself and my wife are both 30 years old. We have a 2 1/2 year old daughter. My wife works at Disneyland. Last year we took our first cruise (thanks to a generous employee discount) on the Disney Wonder to Mexico. It was incredible! We loved the service, the escapism, the activities and the food. This year my mother booked my whole family on the Holland America Westerdam to Alaska. We sail on July 21 which is a long time to plan. I hope to learn more about the cruise here... there seems to be a lot more written on the web about Disney Cruise Line and not so much about Holland America.

Welcome aboard! It's been quite a while since we've sailed to Alaska but we were there 3 times so I should be able to lend a hand. Haven't sailed Holland in a while either but I'm sure someone here can help. Seeing Alaska with a small child will be interesting. Hope you can get into the mountains where there might be some snow for her to enjoy.

Welcome! Our very first cruise was to Alaska on Holland. That was quite a few years ago, but I do remember many multi-generational families on board. Having cruised 11 more times and once more to Alaska since then (but not again on Holland) I characterize Holland as being a little quieter/more sedate, but very organized and well done; they are major players in Alaska. Since you are going during the summer vacation time there will be more activities for the children on board. And in Alaska, it is all about the destinations - more so than the ship. It will be very different from your Disney cruise, but should be just as memorable!

We've never been on Disney or Holland America. Our general thought is, WE LOVE CRUISING!

Glad you joined us here at CruiseCrazies. We've been on 6 previous HAL cruises, including the Statendam to Alaska. You are in for a real treat. Everyone that can should take an Alaska cruise. It is an amazing experience!
