cruisetarp
Sorry - no longer drink coffee. In the early days of our cruising ( mid 60's) I swear they used the leftover coffee to scrape the paint off the ship. It was soooo strong I switched to tea. Jim on the other hand needs his coffee in the AM and would drink anything.
rogue
I don't drink coffee anymore either. When I did, I don't think that I ever had a very good cup of coffee. The coffee in the dining room, though, was always better than the buffet.
jacketwatch
Coffee usually is pertty bad IMHO tho I am particular about my coffee. For me the best free coffee is on RCI as they use a Seattles best blend and its good. Princess for a fee has a coffee card with includes unlimited premium brews and a certain number, 20 I think, of specialities like expressos, lattes, etc. On our last cruise I brought Starbucks Via packets. Not bad,
AndiD
I am one of those lucky ones that can (and do!) drink coffee around the clock! I thought Princess' coffee was pretty good on this last cruise - even in the buffet. Celebrity had pretty good coffee as well. We do like the specialty coffees from the International Cafe on Princess ships as well!
DebbieandJerry
I love black coffee and I agree that for the most part these cruise lines do NOT know how to make coffee. Jerry says they buy the cheapest brand out there. We were on SS Norway with a gentleman who owns a coffee shop in Vegas. He agreed with Jerry that it was cheap beans. We've been on one Royal Caribbean cruise and I was very impressed with Seattle finest being served there. We've had hit or miss on Celebrity with their coffee. Last two times I purchased my own coffee pot and coffee and brewed my own. I even would brew some for the cabin steward. At the end of each cruise, I'd leave the pot, beans and filters for the steward. Last Carnival trip I brought the Starbucks Via. I could have sold them and made a fortune (I did share, though). Certainly not the same and I won't do that again. I did end up going to the "coffee shop" when I rand out of Via and purchased coffee for the second back-to-back. I rationalized that I don't drink alcohol so a splurge for GOOD black coffee was worth it. Because we have 2 cruises on Carnival this year, I will be taking the pot home for use on the second trip. Jerry says he doesn't like the ice-tea because it's concentrated. So we end up brewing hot tea and pouring it over ice. Amazing about our habits! Shari2
I drink decaf...but at home I grind my own beans and have a really tasty cup...when I go out for coffee, I like Starbucks, usually. Don't remember having any really good coffee on cruises except for the specialty coffee place on Celebrity...you have to pay for the coffee there, but the pastries are free. RayColey
We have always liked the coffee on the RCI cruises, whether north american or european. A tad stronger in the Mediterranean, but I suspect that the europeans still find it weak. Good for us, though...
hazelson
I have been spoiled by my coffee press - I like it strong. I have a spare that I take with me when we travel. Nothing like that first yummy morning jolt! I muddle through on Cruises by taking my vanilla coffee creamers ( I get the single serving ones at Big Lots). We did have a small heating pot with us (for the hotels in the weeks before but Carnival confiscated it and didn't give it back until the last morning).
