BryCyp
I have been to St. Thomas and St Martin several times. The last few we have just taken cabs to Megans Bay and Orient Beach. Does anyone have any other suggestions or beaches, We are not really interested in excursions as we have done most of the ones we wanted to do. we usuall have at least 8-10 in our group mixed with adults and children ages 12-
coloradocruisers
Have you ever been to St John? It also has some very nice beaches. You could take the ferry or book an excursion that would take you there. I know you said you weren't interested in excursions, but this one might be different. AndiD
Brycyp - From St. Thomas have you thought about taking the ferry over to St. John's? It is mainly National Park and very different from St. Thomas - beautiful natural setting with a great beach - Trunk Bay, which usually makes the Top 10 beaches list - and lots of walking trails. The ferry leaves from Charlotte Amalie frequently as most visitors to St. John's are daytrippers.
AndiD
Kevin - you and I must have been posting at the same time. So, Brycyp - we both agree - you should try St. John's! jacketwatch
Actually the ferry to St. Johns is a great idea. I agree. In St. martin did you go to the airport by the beach where the exhaust from the jets can actually blow you backwards? its quite an attraction. Seriously. Theres a bar right by the beach and planes are about as close as they can be w/o being too close.

DebbieandJerry
We've hired a taxi in St Maarteen and asked him to take us where the locals hang. He drove us all around both sides; gave us a fantastic overview of the history of the land, people, etc. We got out frequently. Walked around alot. Since we hired him for x amount of hours, our price was set beforehand. Our most favorite thing to do in St Maarteen is Rhino riding. It's like riding a motorcyle in the ocean! We did it first as an excurision through the ship. Second time we just went to Simpson Bay and signed up. I agree about St John's. Beautiful place. Another consideration is to take a ferry to the BVI's. You are so close to other islands and you should have plenty of time, so I think
