Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Exercises Option to Build Second "Project Sunshine" Ship

MIAMI, Feb. 29, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Royal Caribbean Cruises, Ltd. (NYSE, OSE: RCL) exercised its option to build a second Sunshine-class cruise ship to be delivered in the Spring 2015. The ship will be built by German shipbuilder Meyer Werft on substantially the same terms as the first Sunshine ship. The new ships are supposed to be around 158,000 tons and hold 4,100 passengers. We sailed on the 160,000 ton Freedom of the Seas which "only" holds 3,600 passengers, and we felt crowded! I don't think this will be our class of cruise ship.

Hmmm. Why would they build a ship called a new class but so close to the Freedom class for size and passenger capacity?

Sounds like it was redesigned to cram in about 500 more people. :sad2:
