AndiD
Ametrinel - you said it perfectly! They both matter...with a nudge to itinerary.
RayColey
Itinerary wins out with me. I love the ship, but for me it's really just a floating hotel. I want to see all the different places!
destinationdad
i think it all depends - sometimes like on the allure of the seas its the ship and i dont give a HECK where were goin but on other ships i would wanna explore the ports and get some of the local flavor ;];]
DebbieandJerry
We definitely look at itinerary - with at sea days as a priority. We LOVE at sea days and the more the merrier. Definitely cost factor next -- which makes ship a second contingency as some of the mega ships have the same itineraries as the older ships but the mega ships cost 2-3 times as much. We opt for value!
MissMeliss2012
We chose the Oasis because I knew my mother would not get seasick, but typically I choose based on itinerary. I'm trying to go to all the places in the Beach Boys' song "KoKomo"
zebra
For us it's a bit of both. If it's the Caribbean (we've seen almost all the ports) then it's the ship and the location of the embarkation port. If it's an area (country) that we still want to visit, then the itinerary will definitely be the deciding factor. For our first 10 cruises (at least) it was the itinerary that won each time. Now it's become more about the ship .....
Jan115
For us, it's a combination of both and what cruises are available during the two-week block in August when we can both cruise together. This does limit the choices for us. My dear husband prefers Princess - I will cruise any ship that is available during the time we can travel. Since Princess has no ships in the Caribbean in the summer any longer, we have expanded to Europe. I would love to give Alaska a try, but I'll have to do that one on my own because he has no interest whatsoever in "America's Last Frontier". This summer, we will be doing our first small-ship cruise on the Ocean Princess to Ireland and Scotland. The itinerary took priority here - the Ocean Princess would not have been our first pick of ship, but we do look forward to giving her a try. Next summer 2013 will be the new Royal Princess to the Mediterranean. Here, both ship and itinerary took equal priority - new ship and a new long-wished for destination! WeCruiseToo
I guess for us it goes back and forth, but the most important thing is it always has to be a good value. We haven’t been on a Celebrity ship for about four years and we really wanted to experience them again so we watched for a good deal. Now that we’ve got that booked for December (fantastic deal, by the way!) we’re thinking we’d like to visit Alaska again (it’s been almost seven years). So now we’re on the lookout for a great value on an Alaskan cruise and the cruise line doesn’t matter much. All things being equal – price, itinerary, airfare, etc. – sure, we’ve got our favorite cruise lines. But if the price is right we’ll be happy to visit Nassau for the 14th time, too!
