Jason
Silversea Cruises will become the latest cruise line to stamp out smoking in its cabins, starting in 2013. In a letter sent to travel agents, the luxury line said that "In consideration of evolving consumer trends, and to further promote a safe, comfortable and enjoyable environment for our guests, staff and crew," Silversea updated its smoking policy to prohibit lighting up in cabins. The new policy also prohibits smoking in all inside, public venues, except the Connoisseur's Corner, where cigarette, cigar and pipe smoking is still permitted. Smoking also is permitted in specifically designated outside areas. Silversea joins a growing list of cruise lines that have banned smoking in most public areas, as well as in cabins and balconies. Last summer, Princess, Carnival, Norwegian and Holland America all banned smoking in their cabins. This item was written by Johanna Jainchill, who covers the travel industry for Travel Weekly.
