Carnival Launches One Price for All You Can Drink Alcohol (for a fee) on one of its ships

Carnival is piloting a fixed price (for cruises over 6 days) for alcohol similar to the soda fixed price that is growing in popularity.

I think it comes to a little over $60/day. What are your thoughts?

That's waaaay too much alcohol for me. I generally have 2 glasses of wine a day ..... rarely 3- but some days don't feel like any. I can see Carnival never being able to shake their name the "Fun Ships" because there are MANY younger adults on Carnival (in our experience) that party, party, party!!! Just another reason for us not to want to cruise on Carnival.

I also don't think it's a good idea. Way too many people will be drinking way too much. Especially the younger crowd, I'm guessing.

Celebrity also has this "pay one price" option on their ships. We tried to figure it out but if I drank enough to make it worthwhile I wouldn't remember a thing about the cruise and I would be extremely sick. Not a good idea IMHO.

I generally don't care for those programs, including soft drinks. Once you've paid, you feel locked in and have to get your money's worth.

I'm glad that you guys wrote your thoughts before I weighed in because I totally feel the same way. Unless you're buying the most expensive wine each night, it would mean 10-12 "specialty drinks" a day (to get your $60's worth).

Not a good idea. Maybe Carnival misses their "Party Ship" tag! We wonder what the Friends of Bill W thinks about this plan?

Debbie - I don't know how Carnival will work their program but on Celebrity if your mixed drink or wine are over a certain amount you still have to pay the difference.

MaryLou, I'll let you know if I hear anything about this on our Sept cruise and report back (about paying the difference for higher end drinks)

Hmmm. Interesting. I think they are trying this on a few ships at first. I hope it's not on one of those 3-4 day booze cruises as this would be way too much. If it turns into a nightmare then hopefully they will scrub the program. I can't help but think there is no upside to this.
