Advantages of Aft Wrap cabin

I have cruised enough to know certain locations are "noisy" and others are not. I sleep with earplugs in so in all my cruises, nothing has kept me up or woke me up except one time a cabin next to us were people who would slam drawers and let their door slam all the time at all hours. I always get a balcony and always on the aft, but we are getting our first aft wrap on veranda deck on the Sunshine. She is the destiny right now.

So the question is: What advantages or disadvantages are there to an aft cabin. Port/Starboard doesn't matter to me, just general info....i.e. the amount of windows, space, etc.

Thanks!

It would depend on the ship. We have had aft cabins on Celebrity and RCI that are double the regular size balconies and had lounge chairs as well as regular tables and chairs. The only downside sometimes is the ash from the stack but we only had that problem once. It is also a long walk down the hall but in my opinion worth it for the extra outdoor space.

We tried a corner aft cabin on the Emerald Princess. While some people love them and will book nothing else, it definitely had both pros and cons. While not being a "wrap around", it did give us a great view and we were able to see a portion of either side of the ship to some degree. It was a quiet location, with no traffic, and definitely off the beaten path. On the other side of the coin, it was a LONG walk to everywhere. We don't mind walking and normally welcome the exercise, but after a long day in port, all I wanted to do was sit down and put my feet up, and I couldn't get there fast enough. The other noticeable drawback was the lack of a real ocean breeze back there that you normally get with a side facing cabin. This would be an advantage in Alaska or some other colder climate, but in the warm tropical waters of the Caribbean, I enjoy the breeze when the ship is moving. On this particular ship, the aft cabins are the same size as others in that category, although the balcony was larger than those of other categories. However, the balcony was fully covered, so we had no sun - which is important to some people. On the plus side, I found the noise of the ship's wake behind us to be very calming and soothing.

We love the aft balcony and try and get it whenever we can. Carnival is now building most of their balconies with ocean view windows as well. We had an aft wrap-around on the Carnival Glory and it had 2 of the ocean view windows as well as the door. We had them open Marcy and James' balcony and you would have thought we owned the ship ... so much space!

I agree that there is a calming effect being aft. I also agree that the walk down the hall can be very long and tiring. But it truly is our first preference.

If we can't get that particular nook, we try to get as close to it as possible.

I don't mind the long walk. We always book cabins on the stern overlooking the wake.

Probably the reason I always LOSE 7-10 lbs every cruise.

I have a long way to go to walk off the lbs. I am just curious about the space and overall enjoyability of paying the extra price for the wrap.

Guess I will find out next December. Got an aft 7433 on the April cruise and the wrap 8333 in December 2013

Carole,

I remember when we first went from outside window to balcony. I thought we died and went to heaven. Our vow was "we always need to get a balcony". Once we found the "back of the ship" and figured out that we loved it back there, we had yet another vow. Granted, we can't always get those rooms as they tend to be the first to go. But when we do, our smile is definitely bigger!
