Never heard of Muir Woods.

Jan, we've been to San Fran a number of times -- all without cars! We love the public transporation as well as the ability to walk pretty much everywhere. We took the Bart from the airport to the hotel. We took the trolley and cable cars. Don't think we ever hired a taxi.

We spent 2 full days at Golden Gate park.

Where is your cruise?

Debbie&Jerry,

We're cruising to Alaska from San Francisco. We're spending 3 days pre cruise and one day post, to see the city. Did you see Alcatraz? That's #1 on my list!

Muir Woods is a national park featuring Redwoods. It's located outside of SF (Mill Valley I think?), and it seems a popular place to visit from SF.

Alcatraz was an absolute and we loved every minute of it (even when my feet were killing me). Definitely make a reservation ahead of time. Showing up at the dock isn't always the best way.

Thanks for the clarification on the redwoods. We did see them, just didn't know the name of the National Park.

If you're big on walking, just walking from Nob Hill to Giradehil Square (lots of up and down) is incredible. The architecture on the houses is unbelievable. And, you get to walk Lombard Street! (The real twisty one.) We spent a lot of time rewarding ourselves with chocolates!

We have never tired of San Francisco. Each time we have been there, we have found it to be an incredible city.

Jan, we took the first morning tour to Alcatraz. We had the morning fog all around us. We were never hurried off the island and as I recall, we spent a good part of the entire day there. I just remember getting cold towards the end of the day so bring a sweater (just in case). My feet were killing me as well which is odd because I walk all the time. Must have been the moisture.

By the time we got back, which is Fisherman's wharf, we were ready for a steaming bowl of soup and delicious food.

Another reason why we opted for first tour was the weather changes rapidly and we figured if the weather was bad in the early am, they would bump us to the next tour.

The next time we were there we found a delicious Italian restaurant while walking around Nob Hill. The restaurant/bar was located below a sea of houses on the main street. We just lucked out.

Chinatown is an absolute must. As I have posted, we never tire of San Francisco!
