Jason
Miami-based Norwegian Cruise Line will add the popular dance-fitness program Zumba Fitness aboard all its ship beginning this spring, the Miami-based cruise line announced recently. Norwegian said it will offer a variety of energetic Zumba classes on every cruise, which will be led by licensed Zumba instructors who are part of the Zumba instructor network. “We are excited to bring Zumba Fitness onboard our ships and offer guests not just a new way to work out, but an exhilarating and easy-to-follow dance fitness-party,” Norwegian CEO Kevin Sheehan said, in a statement. The Latin-inspired fitness program was launched in 2001 when Colombian creator Alberto "Beto" Perez, took the concept to Miami. Beto and two partners later formed Zumba Fitness in 2001 and have parlayed the company into the largest branded fitness program worldwide with some 14 million people taking weekly classes in more than 150 countries, according to Zumba.com. Zumba has been riding a wave on the high seas. Just this month Celebrity Cruises also rolled out Zumba Fitness to all its ships and in 2011, Princess Cruises did the same. In South Florida Norwegian cruise ships sail from PortMiami, which include Norwegian Epic and Norwegian Sky. GottaCruz
I love Zumba. Knowing this might motivate me to try NCL, although the classes are probably too early in the morning for me.
Jan115
I have never tried Zumba, but know many people who do it regularly. I think it's going to be very popular and a great way to work off those added cruising calories!
DebbieandJerry
I love Zumba and have a horrible time finding a good teacher! I hope that other cruise lines follow and start to offer this - even at a beginner's level. I'll take the classes!!
WeCruiseToo
I think they had Zumba three times on our Celebrity cruise out of San Juan this past December. At least one was outside and I don’t believe there was any charge (it seems like you have to pay a little extra for a lot of the fitness classes nowadays). We didn’t check it out, so I don’t know how well attended they were.
