Jason
It's been two years since the infamous Costa Concordia cruise liner capsized off the Italian island of Giglio. With 32 lives lost, this was the worst cruise ship disaster of modern times. Preparations are now complete for "parbuckling" or uprighting the ship so it can be re-floated and towed away to the scrap yard. Monday, Sept 16, weather permitting, will be the day the ship is uprighted, as part of the largest, most expensive, and most complex salvage operation in history. Details about the uprighting of the ship, can be found here. Do you think the re-floating of the Costa Concordia will be a success? Add your vote above, and comment below! GottaCruz
I think that too much time has gone by and too much damage to the ship has been done for it to be refloated. I 'm hoping that I'm wrong, though, and that it can be done. It will be very, very interesting to see.
jacketwatch
I think so. In 1941 the US Navy raised and refloated all but 2 or 3 ships sunk by the raid on Pearl Harbour and those ships saw action in WW II. I would think today's technology is up to the challenge. WeCruiseToo
Things rarely seem to go as planned but this has been under such a microscope for so long I certainly hope it comes off without a hitch.
rogue
I think that the engineers have had quite a bit of time researching and configuring their attempt. I think they will be successful.
