Jason
There's a new way to see the world's largest cruise ship and its various "neighborhoods." Cruisers can now explore Royal Caribbean's 5,400-passenger Allure of the Seas on Google's Street View. It's the first time the panoramic-view technology – specifically Google Maps Business View powered by Street View – has been used to showcase a cruise ship. The virtual tour of Allure of the Seas covers various spaces across the decks of the massive ship, including Central Park, with its thousands of live plants, the Royal Promenade, the Boardwalk and the Sun Deck. "Consumers go online to research their vacations and this is the closest they can get to actually being onboard," said Royal Caribbean's UK spokeswoman Jo Briody. The Allure project involved more than 20,000 images, taken over the course of eight days, said officials of Google UK, which helmed the effort. The images were shot with a basic DSLR camera equipped with a fisheye lens and a panoramic head on a tripod. You can see the results by clicking HERE or looking on Google Maps in Fort Lauderdale, where the ship is homeported. According to Royal Caribbean spokesman Harry Liu, the cruise line has no plans at this time to similarly map other ships in the fleet.
