Larry, yes...hope you can help your patient to not smoke while the oxygen is on...that could really be dangerous. I used to have a boss who had emphysema...and he would come in to my working place and light up...and he would cough so bad that we would think he was going to die right in front of us...cigarettes are truly addicting...I didn't smoke even one pack a day, yet, when I quit ,so I am so glad I did it way back when before I got really addicted. I only smoked for a few years back in my teen to 20s.

I too smoked when I was about that age, for about 1-2 yrs. and it was about 1ppd and quitting was one of the hardest things I have ever done. It is truly an addiction.

For sure...I really can relate with those who are trying to quit. Debbie...good luck to Jerry...hope he can do it.
