saltydog
Just wondering what members think about the type of cabin they prefer. I hear many people say they like inside because it is less expensive and they don't stay in there much anyway. Others, like myself, always opt for a veranda. I tend to be slighty claustrophobic. Would like to hear what you all have to say and why.
Jan115
Balcony for me whenever possible, though if it's a short cruise or port intensive, I can get away with an exterior window. Whatever the cabin, it's a big plus to have sofa for extra seating. As much as I love Princess, their grand class ships don't have that, and you have to upgrade to a deluxe balcony to get the sofa. I avoid insides unless the deal is too good to pass up. Shari2
saltydog
Jan, I also have done and don't mind ocean view. But I don't do obstructed view. What is the point.

Jan115
Jan, I also have done and don't mind ocean view. But I don't do obstructed view. What is the point. I feel the same way about obstructed view, and I've never booked one. But many people don't mind, especially if it's the same price as an inside and provides some natural light. Plus, I find that some "obstructed" might only be partially blocked by a small portion of a lifeboat or something, making them a great deal. Shari2
Love the balconies...being able to sit and watch the sea quietly is one of my favorite parts of cruising. In my younger... and more party-time (hehe) years, I didn't mind the inside or outside so much since I wasn't in the room that often. WeCruiseToo
We’ve always said we must have a balcony for places like Alaska and Hawaii. If you’d asked us this a few years ago, for “normal” itineraries we would have said the value was most important and an inside cabin was fine but I think we’ve changed a little. Now we really want oceanview or better. We’d probably still take in inside room if was a really amazing bargain but we’ve found it’s too easy to oversleep and way too hard to get out of bed in those perfectly dark interior cabins. jacketwatch
Our first cruise was 2002 on the Splendour of the Seas and we had an OV but the next we had a balcony and it has been that way ever since. For us its a must. Its not just the extra room, its having that option to sit and look at the sea, shore or whatever we want to do. I still recall checking out tracy Arm in Alaska from the comfort of our balcony or entering Stockholm and its many waterways. It was amazing. DebbieandJerry
Once we had a balcony cabin, we vowed never to change. There is something wonderful about being able to sit outside your own room. But, the cost of a balcony on some itineraries is cost prohibitive and that is when we'll take what we can afford - and go upstairs to the lido deck and sit outside! DebbieandJerry
We also prefer the aft part of the ship. We've gotten "burned" too many times forward -- hearing the anchor going up and down. Mid ship is nice for navigating where you want to go, but there is much more hallway activity. Aft tends to be much quieter. Shari2
