Jason
The Carnival Fantasy cruise ship will leave from the Alabama Cruise Terminal and sail for 13 months under an agreement the Mobile City Council approved Wednesday. The year-long schedule runs from Nov. 9, 2016 to Nov. 27, 2017. The 2,056-passenger Carnival Fantasy will offer four-day cruises to Cozumel and five-day excursions to Cozumel and Costa Maya or Progreso. Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson said the agreement represents a $4 million swing in revenue coming to the city to help offset the cruise terminal's annual bond payment. The city currently spends about $1.8 million annually on the annual obligation that, for the past four years, has not had a revenue source to help offset the debt. "We hope it nets the city $2 million," Stimpson said, referring to parking fees that have yet to be disclosed. "It's a huge impact to the city. That's in a nutshell but he details revealed later." An 11 a.m. news conference is scheduled to provide more details about the agreement, which was approved with unanimous vote from the Mobile City Council.
