Jason
Carnival Cruise Line will homeport Carnival Spirit in Brisbane starting in 2020. Spirit will be the first Carnival Cruise Line ship to homeport in Brisbane, the most populous city in Queensland and the third most populous in Australia. When it arrives, Spirit will sail year-round from Brisbane, sailing itineraries that will include ports of call such as Vanuatu and New Caledonia, two of the most iconic scuba diving destinations in the world. Spirit will also offer shorter sailings to other North Queensland destinations. The full list of itineraries will be announced later this month and bookings are set to open next month. According to Carnival Australia Vice President Jennifer Vandekreeke, almost 75,000 Queensland locals have sailed on Carnival cruises from Sydney and Melbourne since 2012. The new sailings from Brisbane gives the cruise line an opportunity “to sail on Carnival right from their doorstep.” Spirit, which went into dry dock for a refurb in 2012, has been sailing from Sydney, Australia. The ship includes the fastest waterslide at sea, Green Thunder, along with threes swimming pools, the adult-only Serenity Retreat, and more. ExpatCruise
Nice to see Carnival bring a fun ship to Australia. It is a great market that I believe will fit well within Carnival. They have been operating Princess Ships in AU and a few Holland American Ships. Bringing Carnival to Australia will give Royal Caribbean a real run and give cruisers another great option. AustralianCruisingNews
Carnival Cruise Line have based Carnival Spirit in Sydney, Australia since 2012 thus it has not made much of a different in giving Royal Caribbean International a run for their money so to speak. Royal Caribbean International are on a different level when it comes to product and offerings in Australia.
