Jason
Carnival Cruise Line is cracking down on smokers. Under the new rules,, passengers caught smoking in non-specified areas will be fined $500 and face the possibility of being removed from the ship at the next port of call. All guests staying in the same cabin could also be removed, according to the policy. “Guests who are disembarked for violating our policy will be responsible for all financial charges and expenses to return home, and no refund of their unused cruise fare will be provided be prohibited from sailing with Carnival Cruise Line in the future,” the policy notes. The previous policy stipulated violators would be fined if they were caught smoking in their rooms, with the money going towards the cost of cleaning. The smoking ban includes cigarettes, cigars, pipes and electronic cigarettes. Carnival also prohibits the possession or use of marijuana. zebra
It's about time!!! Sorry I feel so strongly about this ..... speaking as an ex-smoker, thank heavens I gave up 40 years ago! What really ices my cupcake is when walking along the "smoking" side of the pool deck, which I try to avoid at all costs, but it happens .... I virtually try to hold my breath the length of the deck because the smoke smell is so offensive and of course dangerous. We also don't go into the casino either because even though they have a "nonsmoking" side that awful smell permeates the entire area. OK, OK, I'll get off my soapbox now! ? ? I do hope ALL cruise lines follow suit though. I have often wondered why, if they are still wanting to pander to the smokers, they don't make a smoking area at the stern on one of the decks. Shari2
While this will not make a lot of smokers happy, I have to agree with you Jackie. Smoke in the air is one thing that makes me have to use my inhaler for Asthma. I don't have to use it often otherwise. Used to be able to handle the smoke years back, and we could sit with friends for awhile, but couldn't always be in the smoking area. And it was hard to sit out on your balcony with the smoke from next door that would come over our way. I wonder if this will keep some people away from Carnival. Not sure what the rules are on other ships.
Jan115
This is welcome news, and I hope Carnival will enforce its new policy. I occasionally still notice people defying rules and smoking on their balconies - not just Carnival, and they should be the first ones booted off the ship. zebra

I also have dealt with smoke while on my balcony; the last time....I found him - one balcony down and over from us and I purposely pointed to him and said loudly "there he is"! He immediately snuffed it out and went back inside; I don't know if he thought I had a crew member with me or not, but he did not do it again. I, too, am a former smoker...quit in 1991...and it is unreal how much the smoke bothers me now. I am fine with smokers having a place on an open deck, but on the balcony I do worry about fire...and it has happened!
